I have lived in the Atlanta area for 40 years and have two children. My daughter is a graduate of Emory University and my son is a graduate of The University of Georgia.
I have been teaching English in Fulton County for 33 years. I have taught at College Park High School, Holcomb Bridge Middle School, North Springs High School, Northview High School and Johns Creek High School. I currently teach senior advanced placement literature at Johns Creek. In addition, I work for The College Board as a mentor for AP teachers, and I have also served as a reader for the SAT essay portion.
I have been the recipient of many honors and awards throughout my career, but those of which I am most proud are, " 2007-2008 Northview Teacher of the Year," “Who’s Who of American Teachers,” “Educator of the Year,” by the Atlanta Braves and Bell South, “Outstanding Teacher Award” by the University of Chicago and “Outstanding Teacher Award” by Reed College. These awards are special because they were the result of student nominations.
After teaching high school for several years, I’d written hundreds of college recommendation letters and found it frustrating when great students were rejected from schools that they were qualified to attend. This disappointment motivated me to do some research. I spent about 2 years reading everything I could find about the college admissions process. I then contacted admissions officers and former admissions officers from several major universities.
After completing my research I discovered that most universities are looking for similar qualities in their students. Finding the right fit is very important for the student, however once the fit is made, the student must be marketed properly. I began my business in 2002 and it has been growing quickly. I have placed students with learning disabilities as well as those with perfect SAT scores. I am very proud of my success rate and hope to continue my dual passions of teaching and helping students to attend the universities of their choice.
Membership in IECA keeps me current on the latest trends.
